FAQS

HOW WILL I KNOW YOU ARE THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?

The only way to know for sure is to contact me. Most people have a good sense of whether I am the right professional to help them after their first initial contact. You can contact me for a free 30min session to tell me a little bit about yourself and why you feel you need counselling.

DO YOU PROVIDE FACE TO FACE, TELEPHONE OR ONLINE COUNSELLING?

All online counselling sessions are conducted via a secure and easy-to-use platform called VSee (similar to Zoom or Skype).  I also offer counselling via the telephone as well as face to face.  My counselling rooms are based in Middlesex and all the necessary COVID-19 precautions are in place.  You will be expected to wear your mask, sanitize before entering the building and maintain distance.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THERAPY?

Once you have made a decision to see a therapist, you still might be apprehensive about the process. Many people feel nervous before their first appointment. Therapy is a shared journey; a shared process. And, although you and I will travel together, it is ultimately your journey and you will make your own decisions. I do not have answers to all your concerns, but I do have the ability to listen carefully and will ask thoughtful questions. Your answers to these questions will help shape the direction of our work. You can expect to be respected. You can expect that I will offer opinions and suggestions from time to time but I will not tell you what to do.

WHO DO YOU WORK WITH?

I provide counselling for adults of all ages, couples and children and young people. I work with clients experiencing a wide range of issues.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE FIRST LESSON?

The initial session is the time for you to start to share your story, talk about your goals and what you would like to change. Another important aspect of the first session is deciding if we are a good fit. Do I seem like someone you can trust? We are establishing a relationship that will become the foundation for working together. You will begin to figure out some goals; I will begin to figure out how to help you get there.

HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?

To begin, we will meet once a week for six sessions initially.   I find it’s important to gain some momentum in the beginning by meeting weekly or progress can be slow. Once some or all of your goals are met, meeting less often can be arranged.

I require 24 hours’ notice of cancellation or you will need to pay for the appointment. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency. It’s important that we meet consistently in order to make progress.

HOW LONG DO APPOINTMENTS LAST?

Appointments are 50 minutes. This is the standard length of a counselling session.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?

I charge £50 per 50-minute session. Payment will be collected or deposited after each session.

WHAT THEORETICAL APPROACH DO YOU USE?

I pull from a variety of theories and techniques. I find Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychoanalysis, Person-Centred Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques are often helpful for my clients.

DO YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?

No, I am not a GP or Psychiatrist and therefore do not provide medication.  If you want to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, you will need to contact your GP.  I only offer talking therapy.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
